Welcome to the concrete bowl
The Park Stadium is ready for use in 1973. The "concrete bowl" was hated and loved. By 1998, it could hold 70,600 spectators. However, Schalke's football is often not appealing enough to sell all the tickets.

A ruinous birthday
FC Schalke 04 celebrated its 75th birthday with an international tournament at the Parkstadion. Three European Cup winners, Benfica Lisbon, Liverpool FC and Feyernoord Rotterdam, took part in the anniversary. However, the tournament turns into a financial disaster: Schalke pays 200,000 marks extra due to the low attendance figures.

The last game at the Park Stadium
On 19 May 2001, the fans bid farewell to the Parkstadion with a choreo after 28 years. It was already clear in 1989 that FC Schalke 04 would need a new stadium at some point. The concrete colossus was suffering from mining damage.
